What album do you think is the best of all time?

No Name 2

You’re known as one of hip-hop’s most influential MCs. Where are you from and how long have you been a rapper?

I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I have a mother who grew up in the Bronx, New York, an older sister, and a grandmother from California, Arizona, and New Jersey. My daddy’s from the Dominican Republic and he is one of my best friends.

Who was the first rapper you ever listened to, and why did you start rapping?

I can’t say. The first rapper I listened to was Snoop Dogg. His “Pimp a Butterfly” was really important in my life.

On a scale of 1-10, what’s your favorite musical genre?

R&B. I love the Soul music. It’s amazing how the music has changed, and it’s really interesting that we’re trying to keep it the same, but there are a lot of new things going on right now. Everything kind of comes and goes. I’m really excited about it.

How do you feel about being considered one of hip-hop’s all-time greats?

I feel like it’s a real honor. I think of myself as a living legend and I feel I deserve all the attention I get.

AMY GOODMAN: Earlier this week the United Nations’ chief human rights official criticized the U.S. for failing to investigate the use of water as a weapon at Iraq War sites. Human Rights Watch International’s chief, Kenneth Roth, told The Guardian, quote, “Our biggest concern is that there is no accountability for human rights violations in the war crimes tribunals where they are happening.” This comes after the U.N. issued a report last year that found that Iraqi officials were involved in the torture, abuse and murder-by-drunkenness of U.S. detainees.

The U.S. government has defended its treatment of some of the detainees, saying some of them were released when their claims about their torture were deemed false. The Senate is debating a resolution this month calling for more investigations into waterboarding. Last week, House Oversight Committee chair Darrell Issa and others called on President Obama to provide them with a list of these detainees.
