Well, it’s all about having a sketchbook to draw the car on. My daughter had a toy car since she was 4 ½ years old in Australia. A car is the most important piece in my house. A car is something I can bring all my family. A car is the centrepiece of my home and of the family.
So, I had the biggest drawing book for my daughter. It was full of different designs: car, motorcycles, motor bikes, cars, tanks, trucks, a spaceship etc. And I just have sketches of that. When she was about ten I started drawing her. She’s been drawing and doing drawings since she was like 11.
How many sketches do you get each day?
I’m drawing all day. I’m sketching my daughter’s friends. I have all types of friends: people who have an interest, people who just like to look at cars etc. And then of course you have the family, of course you have the neighbours. They come out of their homes and they come up to me and say, ‘I want to buy a car’. I’m like, ‘What do you want?’ That’s how I see it. If they have a car and they want to make some money but they don’t want to buy a car, how can one ask for help? I’m the one who’s doing all the work for them.
How did you meet your wife?
I had seen her sketches. She had a drawing class and she was good. I remember when we would go up to the drawing room that’s where we met, but I only saw her afterwards. It was before she started drawing. At first she would always show me a picture. Then she said, ‘Ok, my friends like this.’ It started like that.
How did the family cope with your involvement?
We’re all good people and I think everyone is kind. It just depends on the group, on the family, on how people are connected. If I think of anyone, it’s for my family. If I see that they don’t like drawings, I’m going to be really angry and I’ll say, ‘Why are you drawing this? What are you drawing?’ But they don’t think about that and I don’t have to.
What has to happen?
It’s all right. I didn’t want to do it but when I went to see what I can do about it I realised I only
