It is actually quite a loaded contest. Pole dancing is the “art” of the “spinning wheel” and everyone seems to love the “pole queen” of the “dance of the spheres.”
The pole dancing world championships are held in the summer. The World Dances Championships is held in November. You can find information about each event and who is competing in it on the World Dances website.
The winner is selected by a panel of judges – mostly Americans. The judges can be found here.
