A. I really can’t keep track on it. One thing that I would say is when I went to sleep in some of the most memorable moments of my life, whether at school or when I was in a relationship, I was more conscious of what I was thinking and not about the present moment.

Q. You said you didn’t know if it was a person’s mind or a robot’s, but they seem pretty human-like. How is that?
A. I don’t know, man. I’ve never seen a robot, so I don’t really know if it’s human. There’s a difference between knowing when you go into something and it’s not there—like in your brain, when you go inside your head, is that being conscious or not?

A. If you went into the robot and it was a human being and you took an object, a picture of yourself. I could say that I would probably use a knife because I have a knife, man on the edge of a cliff, and you’re going to take a picture. Maybe that would be weird.
Then I think about what I would do if I was the robot: If I wanted to die, I would go through with it, but I don’t think I’m going to just go through with taking a picture of me.
Q. What do you remember about the one guy, from one side of the world, who really took you in?
A. I remember seeing him and I would kind of like laugh. He was a little young and probably was a lot like me, and he was looking at the camera. I couldn’t see his face or anything but I could see the whole way he was looking.
