The White House is preparing a long list of options for how to respond to the ongoing crisis in North Korea, with the potential for a new UN sanctions resolution and military exercises, a senior White House official said Friday.
The official said the administration was consulting with allies, including Japan, South Korea, China, and Russia, as well as the United States’ allies in Europe.

There are also discussions about how to respond to the recent missile launch with a missile defense system that has been in the works for years, the official said.
That system, which is being developed in part by Lockheed Martin and a consortium led by Israel Aerospace Industries, would likely be deployed across the Atlantic Ocean from the UK to Europe as a response to a missile test by North Korea, according to a draft of the White House response obtained by The Hill.
