And what makes it an influence?

A-S: It’s interesting that that might have been a factor, because it feels like that a lot of the influences are still there. Rap music at that time wasn’t as popular, but the influence doesn’t feel like something it just sorta happened as the music changed a lot. If it had just been a whole bunch of people making it, that’s not something that would have happened, and this is kind of a way of making rap a bigger thing at that time in music, when no one was around to do that. But I think the best way to do that is to take music and take a bunch of genres, take a bunch of styles, take some styles and put that into one place, to make rap what it is now. To me it’s really all about what you do with what you have, because it makes it much different and a lot different than a lot of other music. You do a lot of things when you make a song, and different people in the world may think different things, or make the wrong choices, but there’s still so many possibilities.

A-S: I just think that rap just has that power to pull people into that and make that happen. I’d say, what’s happened in the last 50 years has been one of the biggest advances there is, because now people can be in their own mind and their own place and be able to make music for that space where they get these creative ideas that come out, and be able to use the songs in some way. In other words, if I want to write a pop song where I write like this and then go with this, I can do it, but if I want to write an R&B song and use that as a starting point, then we need to get some people in and say hey, let’s write a pop song and make like a ballad.

Is that the only way hip hop has changed?

A-S: The whole genre, from an aesthetic standpoint, has changed so much. The music and lyrics you hear, is all different now, and it has been different for people, and we have to adapt to that. The lyrics are not only changing, like they are now, but the culture as well, with people being so comfortable with it. It just gets bigger and bigger and bigger each and every year.

Are there music that didn’t change?

A-S: I guess the thing
