How long does it take to learn piano by ear? – Piano App Free Download

In the early 1980’s, when I was a sophomore at a small middle school, I decided to start piano lessons. I had no idea how long it would take or how the practice would go. I did my homework about 15 months in. I was surprised to discover that I learned more of the music by ear while learning by ear than I did through the teacher’s notes and ear training. In my first year as a private tutor, I used ear training to my advantage: after reading about ear training for the first time in a book at a friend’s request, I went out of my way to teach my students how to play and study the music from the first glance at the music. I had to teach them this way for awhile, even in my freshman year. They learned to play the way I wrote and taught themselves the chords as I taught. When I graduated, I was in the seventh grade and had no idea how far I would progress in playing. I thought that playing music well by ear was a natural instinct or even an ability that had to be taught by a teacher. It took me a number of years to realize that it was very different from being born with an innate talent for playing music. I had to learn to learn it by ear, and I could not give up without a fight. As I progressed through piano music by ear, I found that I didn’t need to know all of the chord shapes to learn how to play an entire piece by ear. A student of mine who was ten at the time had a way of teaching the music even when I needed to read a piece on the piano. If he could play it accurately by ear, he could play it on the piano as well. I have written about how to play on the piano in detail in my book, “The Piano Teacher’s Workbook,” available at www2.e-miller.com (see Chapter 15, Piano Teaching 101 and The Piano Teacher’s Workbook in the back of my book, “Understanding your Piano Teacher” for detailed explanations on this subject.) A major discovery for me was that I could actually teach myself to play the melodies and chords to any piece of music I wanted to start teaching over the course of the year. All I wanted to do was to learn to play the piece and then leave the piano for a few weeks, let the student develop the skills, then come back and teach them more. I have never known someone to go from being a beginner to playing the music well the first time over. What I learned
