Academic research

Community Development Financing & Affordable Housing Grants
For any work initiated within University of Alberta faculty and research, the University of Alberta has an established commitment to funding academic research. Grants are available for specific academic publications, technical work, and project proposals. See our Academic Research Grant Application.

Innovative research

Innovative research can be funded at the grant level, an ongoing, multi-year collaboration with an academic institute, or at both the grant level and one-time co-funding and co-design of a project by a government entity. Applications to receive a grant and work on your project should be submitted electronically. See Innovative Research Granting for Information.

Research assistantships

University of Alberta researchers may be eligible for a research assistantship or an academic research fellowship. See Research Assistance Program.

Other universities

University of Alberta students are eligible for research assistantships that are funded by the Alberta Innovation Support Grant (ARIQ).

The ALRI grant can be used to assist with an academic project that supports a departmental or university research plan. The research plans should be specific to your interests. See our Research Assistance Program page for information on our R-Program and the funding.

Collaboration with other universities

Academic research and teaching assistantships also are available to the University of Alberta in collaboration with other universities for graduate level research and teaching assistantships with the goal of identifying promising research opportunities. See Research Assistance Program .

Post-graduate research assistantships

The University of Alberta offers post-graduate research assistantships each academic year. These studies are usually required to assist an academic staff or faculty in fulfilling project objectives. See post-graduate research assistantships for further information.

Student-based research and post-graduate research assistantships

Student-based research and post-graduate research assistantships are funded through the Alberta Research Fund Graduate Fellowships.
