I’ve always thought the most valuable part of any movie is the actors.
I’ve never seen any of the actors get paid more than $5,000 to give their performance.
You could see a scene that has $100,000 in it and have a person who is worth $5 million in his or her role.
The whole industry is full to overflowing with money.
How long is it from idea to film? Is there a set of instructions? Is it written down then put together?
Usually two weeks from starting the proposal to casting directors signing off.
Are there any rules? Is there a script?
Yes.
Are there any stipulations?
No. We’re just like a big, free-form creative process. The rules are usually based on the scene and the time commitment it takes.
What is it like working at the highest level of the film world?
It is always a thrill, and there are moments like this, where it’s like you can’t stop thinking about this.
Do you have a schedule?

You can see the plan all the way through.

In film, you’re on the scene 24/7, you get to go to meetings, you make your cuts, you sign off on what people do for months. Then, once the production wraps and everyone is working on the final draft of the script, everything goes into production. Does that sound exciting?
This is the most glamorous of all jobs in that respect. It’s great.
What do you think of directors now? Is it a bad thing they’re starting to be independent?
I think you only see it in movies.
I’d love to have two directors in my business, but the only problem is I don’t know if they’re going to go to work and finish their own projects.
