First, choose your type of writing. As you may have already determined from the type of movies you’re working on, scripts are typically more action-based. It isn’t a bad thing to be a more action-driven writer—your reader is more likely to care about the plot and more likely to care how your characters are reacting to that action than about whether or not your action is in the right place at the right time.
Second, check around. Most of the video editing programs you’ll find out there are free. If not, you can make a few small donations to the writing program you like just by visiting the site and clicking through their pages and reading their reviews. These free programs are also well-reviewed, so it’s worth giving away a bit to help get the word out to your potential readers.
