There are a lot of producers out there who are making a lot of films and then, because they didn’t study film, they couldn’t put out something that’s good, so it was their way of proving that they were able to write films, and there’s a certain amount of desperation in that. I think the only way to get a degree is to make something that the viewer will love, and we’ve been lucky enough to make something that’s not only really good but that’s got a lot of money attached and people love it. Some of our most popular shows have gone on to bigger and more popular shows, and it shows you the strength of the industry. We really like making our own TV shows and having a big impact on people’s lives.
How big of a focus is Star Trek television right now?
It depends on how long we run, but it’s a big place. There are more people involved now than there have been in a long time. We’ve gotten involved with a lot of things related to the legacy and the legacy of the franchise and the history of the franchise and it’s amazing. We’re also really proud of the fact that we’re able to create something that’s a part of so many people’s lives, and we really think it’s going to have a lasting part to it. It’s a legacy that we’re really excited about, and that I think people are excited about, so we feel like we’re not putting all our energy into this show.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where the creative teams on a show feel the need to do something “behind the scenes”? Like you had to make this change or that edit because there was some tension within a certain group of your staff.
I’m not going into too much detail about that, cause that’s stuff we don’t want to give away, but I really don’t think that there’s a place where we have to be behind the scenes because it’s very easy to make changes and things that we’re not even aware of happening that will take our show down the line, and I think it’s a good thing that the writers have more freedom than they had before. It allows them to make the best decisions for the show, and I think it’s a good thing.
When a series is airing, you get a big influx of new viewers, and there are certain times of the week that you can feel that new audience, which is when you get new members of your staff
