On a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, former New York Knicks and Boston Celtics point guard John Wall discussed his new NBA team. Wall was talking about the possibility of the team signing a free agent, and whether the team would be able to sign Carmelo Anthony to a long-term contract.

While the conversation began off with speculation that Wall was going to offer up free agency as part of his contract negotiations in New York, Wall clarified his statement.

“The reason for it is because, no matter what they do, they’re going to have to have a new point guard, and they’re going to have to have a new starting center and a new backup point guard. But we’ll work with them on that,” Wall said.

At this point, the questions seem to have come from the question of whether or not the Wizards are interested in a trade of Anthony. The answer, as you may have guessed, appears to be no with Wall adding that the team has no plans to trade Anthony.

“There’s just no way they’re going to trade Carmelo Anthony. In my life I know Carmelo Anthony. I’ve never had any problem meeting with him and talking to him. I just don’t see what their problem is. I understand where their problem is,” Wall continued.

He was speaking to SI.com about trade rumors involving Anthony, as well as other topics in the NBA, but his comments regarding trading Anthony was more off the wall since he had no reason to believe they were interested in trading for him.

There is some speculation that the Wizards may be interested in dealing Anthony to the Miami Heat or Cleveland Cavaliers
