If you’re an artist:

Draw a Ford’s badge from an angle of 90 degrees, parallel to a background

Draw a small oval to represent the badge area

Create a simple fill pattern, using a white and a black fill color and black pen

Draw a small horizontal line with a white fill, so that it shows what the badge looks like when positioned correctly

Add the shape to the left of the area of white paint

Add some text on top of the badge, if you want

Add some sort of text that says “Ford,” or “The Ford Foundation” or “Allison” or whatever

Use some kind of background if you like

If you’re a designer:

Create a new typeface and choose “Letterpress” using its base colors

Make certain to use some text and lettering to give your badge a distinctive shape

Don’t want to draw a badge? We’ve created a full-blown template:

Click on the “Download.” Go to myFordsign.com to see a live version of the logo and badge. You’ll see a preview of the “free” logo, which you’ll have to pay for later. Then take a look at that premium version.

The premium version of the logo and the badge won’t work together. I tried it that way and the new premium version doesn’t even get it right, and the original is just too ugly.

The only way they don’t screw it up is if you have a copy of myFordsign.com and the logo/badge don’t work in there. In that case, I won’t change the design unless I get that client to pay for the premium version.

In this way, you’re not limited to just one font you use, and you can choose from several different ones.

The only drawback:

You’d have had to have both the logos and badges to work well. The badges only come out pretty well because you can’t miss the logo at the top.

And then, at any time in the future, you might want to draw a completely different logo, if your clients give you that sort of money for that particular project. It’s an extremely expensive thing to do, but if you’re going to do it, it might be worth it.

There’s no substitute for real-life experience, but there is an advantage to having myFordsign working
