A man from the US with a “fancy, rich, but evil” attitude has been convicted of a series of robberies and sex assaults, according to US media reports.

A jury acquitted two other suspects of the same crimes. They had been arrested in June last year and accused of stealing a total of $20,000 from three people in the city of Chicago. The trial heard about $500,000 in total theft from victims at a gas station on the city’s south side.

The jury deliberated for just seven and a half minutes before convicting 26-year-old Jason Cahn and 23-year-old Nicholas Hildebrand. Cahn and Hildebrand were found guilty of robbery on Wednesday, US media reported. Their sentences range from six to 14 years in prison.

Prosecutor David W. O’Connor said: “They committed robbery for hire; they worked for one another, and on occasion shared proceeds.”

O’Connor added: “This is just another example of a guy who is a nice, he’s a rich and evil man.”

According to USA Today, Cahn and Hildebrand were acquitted of the attempted murder conspiracy of Janine Pate and Jessica Schachner, the attempted homicide of Jessica Stinebrickner-Kauffman on Christmas Eve in 2012.

Cahn is listed on several websites as a US agent in the Air Force Reserve, and was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, from 2009 to 2012. He started working in law enforcement for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2014, according to his Facebook page.

Cahn was indicted on 22 federal counts in 2016 on the charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering, extortion, identity theft, fraud, money laundering, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

He was arrested for allegedly holding two of the women captive in his home and raping them on multiple occasions over a 14-month period in 2015 and 2016, court papers from that case said.

Prosecutors said their evidence would show how Hildebrand and Cahn had stolen from the victims before and after they met them through online dating site MeetMe. One woman had allegedly paid Hildebrand $90,000 to kill her roommate at a Chicago hotel where she was staying in April 2016.
