The story of the life of the legendary Italian conductor Vittorio Einaudi has been written. This book begins with his arrival in Rome in 1499 and the birth of his son, Vittorio. For more than 150 years, Einaudi was known as a virtuoso in music. An outstanding musician and pianist from a wealthy background, he became one of the most prestigious musicians in Italy. While Einaudi performed for the Emperor Charles V, Pope John XII and others, his passion was to become a composer of music.

In 1502, he was appointed the Grand Master of the Court orchestra, and the next year he became the chief conductor of the opera, The Fantasia. He wrote the most impressive opera of the early modern period, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in D major, also known as the Ninth Symphony. But Einaudi’s greatest creation was the opera La Boheme, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1803. In the second part of the story, titled “The Art of Performing,” Einaudi recounts his early life, the struggles he experienced during and after his life as an accomplished musician, and then examines the role of genius in the art of music.

In the finale, “The End of the World,” he offers a final thought on the importance of artistic excellence. Einaudi has taught at Carnegie Mellon University and at Boston University. He has appeared in more than 400 exhibitions of his works and is the author of more than 300 scholarly papers in music, rhetoric, and history. His most recent book, The Music of La Boheme and
